FR TONY — SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

The first reading today shows the Holy Spirit breaking into the world with power, unity, and mission. For Catholics, this moment is the birth of the Church — God’s people empowered to continue Christ’s work. The tongues of fire symbolise a transformation from fear to bold witness, while the many languages reveal that the Gospel is meant for every nation and culture.

Pentecost reminds us that the Spirit still animates the Church today; guiding, sanctifying, and sending us out. We are called not to remain closed in on ourselves but to let the Spirit use our gifts for the good of others, proclaiming Christ through our words and our lives.
