Liturgy & Worship

The celebration of the Mass is at the heart of parish life at St Michael’s. These ministries support the prayer and worship of the community, helping to create a reverent, welcoming, and meaningful liturgical experience for all.

There are several ways to be involved in the life of the liturgy:

  • Altar Servers

  • Altar Society

  • Liturgy Committee

  • Collection Counters

  • Ministers of Communion

  • Readers (Lectors)

  • Music Ministry

Each of these ministries plays an important role in supporting the celebration of the Mass and the wider liturgical life of the parish. Whether assisting at the altar, proclaiming the Word, serving the community, or supporting music and preparation, all are invited to take part according to their gifts and availability.

Altar Servers

Altar Servers assist the priest during the celebration of the Mass, supporting the liturgy through their service at the altar. This ministry is open to young parishioners who have received the sacraments of First Holy Communion, with training provided. It is a meaningful way to be actively involved in the life of the Church from a young age.

Altar Society

The Altar Society cares for the preparation and presentation of the church for Mass, including cleaning, arranging flowers, and maintaining a reverent environment for worship. This ministry plays an important behind-the-scenes role in supporting the beauty and dignity of the liturgy, and welcomes new members.

Liturgy Committee

The Liturgy Committee supports the preparation of parish liturgies, particularly for major seasons such as Advent, Easter, and Pentecost. Working with the parish priest, the committee helps ensure that celebrations are prayerful, engaging, and meaningful, while also contributing to sacramental preparation and the wider liturgical life of the parish.

Collection Counters

Collection Counters assist with the responsible handling and counting of offertory collections following Mass. This ministry supports the practical stewardship of parish resources and operates on a rostered basis, ensuring transparency and accountability in parish finances.

Ministers of Communion

Ministers of Communion assist in the distribution of the Eucharist during Mass and may also bring Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend, including the sick and housebound. This ministry is both a practical service and a spiritual responsibility, reflecting Christ’s presence in the community.

Readers (Lectors)

Readers, or Lectors, proclaim the Word of God during Mass, helping to bring Scripture to life for the parish community. This ministry involves preparation and reflection on the readings, as well as participation in the liturgy, and is an important way to contribute to the prayerful celebration of the Mass.

Music Ministry

The Music Ministry supports the liturgy through song and music, helping to lead and enhance the prayer of the congregation. Whether through singing, playing an instrument, or assisting with coordination, this ministry contributes to a vibrant and uplifting worship experience.
