Anzac Day - A Special Day for St. Michael's
It is a not-so-well-known fact that St. Michael's is a War Memorial. The Church is blessed and dedicated to
'All Those Who Died in Defence of Australia'
Anzac Day therefore, marks a special moment of remembrance for the parish and for the serving men and women of Gallipoli Barracks and those veterans of all Services who continue live in the area.
A Special Anzac Day Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 25th at 9.00am.
The Shalom Music Ministry will be providing the music. All are welcome.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

Personal Message From Deacon Peter
I am humbled to be appointed here at St. Michael's and look forward to our faith journey together.
I'm from a farming family on the Darling Downs and was ordained 18 years ago. I'm still learning and am ready to support you all as we go. I used to be an accountant and left my Mission Aust chaplain and St john Ambulance director role to serve here.
Please come and say "hi"

Je T'adoor - We Love a New Door!
When is a door not a door?
When it is weather-damaged, rotting and you put your hand through it trying to get in.
But Parishioners, do not fear, the toilet at St. Michael's Church has been upgraded with a new door and a new sign.
No longer is it just a toilet, but a Unisex Toilet!
All are welcome to use.

New Parish Logos
At the Parish Pastoral Council Meeting on Sunday 18th February, the council decided that due to potential copyright issues with using the Spiritan Fathers Logo, a new logo would be introduced.
The new logo characterises the Parish's Patron Saint, St. Michael, defeating the evil entities who rebelled against God and is remarkably similar to the carved fresco at the entrance of the church and therefore could be considered iconic within our community.
The two examples below will be used on our website and in printed documents.
Please contact Andy Walton on 0423 306 659 if you have any questions about the logos.

A Safe Place
For the first time in seventy-two years, St. Michael's Dorrington Parish has a safe place to put its precious record books and documents.
The Parish took delivery of a refurbished Fire Safe on Friday. The safe is capable of handling the biggest record books that were previously kept on a bookshelf in the Parish Office and in danger of loss if a fire broke out.
Training sessions for office holders on how to operate the safe will be held next week.

You Can Help
We had a great working bee last weekend at St. Michael's but with all the rubbish that is still needing to be moved off-site, the one thing we are short of now is Brisbane City Council Waste Vouchers.
If you have any vouchers at your home or business that you are not to be using, could you please consider donating them to the parish by leaving them in the letterbox at 250 Banks Street or by phoning Andy Walton on 0423 306 659 and I will pick them up.
Many thanks in advance!

St. Michael's Parish Working Bee
Following a recent Workplace Health and Safety Inspection conducting for us by the Archdiocese, we are looking to remove all the plant pots and planters surrounding the Church and Presbytery. All the pathways leading to the Church, Presbytery and steps leading to the Church Hall will be tidied up and made safe for pedestrian (particularly children) traffic.
Following the cleanup, we will mow and whipper snip the grassed areas.
The Bee will be held on Saturday 27th January between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm and a sausage sizzle and cuppa will be available for hungry workers.
Your participation would be most welcome in whatever form (even just encouragement) and you don't have to be there all day - just the time you can afford.
Please RSVP to Andy Walton at [email protected]

Welcome Father Ray Chapman!
On behalf of the Parish, we welcome Fr Ray Chapman as administrator for two months. This is a new beginning for our wonderful Parish. Please say hi and have a chat with Fr Ray when you see him.
To informally welcome Fr Ray, we will hold a morning tea/afternoon tea at each of the Masses on the weekend of 13/14 January. Please stay for a chat and cuppa.
We will have something more formal in February.
To allow Fr Ray to understand what St Michael's faith community is, the month of January will be a time for listening. Fr Ray is here to listen, heal, guide and shape our Parish and is available to anyone, for any reason on 0404 142 540 or at [email protected]
Let us embrace this new beginning, while appreciating what has gone before.

Parish Sub-Committee Meeting with the Archdiocese 30-11-23
- Lisa Forbes and Fr Peter were again both present representing the Archdiocese
- They confirmed Fr Ray Chapman as Administrator, per the recent letter. He is a Marist priest, currently in Herston, celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination two years ago. He has been a spiritual director previously and looks like he has deep experience with mental health, homelessness. He was involved in the transition of Marist Brothers out of St Johns Wood - The Gap parish, so he's familiar with our situation
- The sub-committee noted online that Fr Ray was at St Brigid's in Millers Point next to the Harbour Bridge, where there was outrage, fear it would close due to dwindling numbers in 2014-15 and it made the Sydney Morning Herald (Australia's oldest Catholic building). Fr Ray stated that it will not be closing, mass will still be celebrated, which it still is today, though only one mass per week now.
- His role isn't just administration though; he will be presiding over masses too - all of them as they are now, with no change (this was confirmed) and all other special activities as previously outlined (e.g. adoration...)
- He won't be living full time in the parish presbytery
- His role will be for 2 months only
- This is the next step in the plan to firstly secure a priest and secondly, some stability for St Michael's as soon as possible before Christmas
- During this time, he'll be helping guide, heal and shape - the next steps in the plan to a long-term solution liaising between the parish (and PPC, Finance, PCSC) and the Archdiocese with the goal being to arrange a more permanent situation for Dorrington upon his departure in terms of administration, who will preside over mass and other special activities (and how many) etcetera.
- In terms of this future scenario from March onwards, the Archdiocese are still open to closer ties to Enoggera possibly a deacon to administer and more than one supply priest to preside at masses which could by that time include a reduced number of masses.
- The sub-committee reiterated that there had been serious hurt and that this had nothing to do with speculation about the future, but rather based on what had happened, what was written and stated by the Archdiocese and Spiritan Order and that this must still be acknowledged and taken into consideration if there is to be actual healing and that we as the PCSC had come to them (Lisa and Fr Peter) in faith, in that we trust in their words, in what they're telling us about the parish future.
- The Archdiocese reiterated firmly that there is no intent, plan or otherwise considerations to close the church or sell the land and that neither of the Archdiocese representatives recall it happening or believe it is a possibility.
Christmas Masses
Volunteers Please!
As you are aware, we are currently fortunate to have weekday masses here at St. Michael's when many other parishes do not. In order to maintain such a privilege and beautiful path to prayer, we need your help.
We are seeking volunteers to nominate for the Sacristy Roster for both weekday and weekend masses. It may be that you are only able to commit on one day a week or month, but it all helps.
It goes without saying; if we do not find volunteers, the number of Masses held at St. Michael's may need to be reduced. This is not what we want as a Parish, so please, let's join together and volunteer by sending Noreen an email at:

St. Michael's Mourns Passing of Active Parishioner
Active and very much valued for her enormous contribution to Parish life, St. Michael's parishioner, Fran Lewis sadly passed last Thursday evening.
Chris and Fran came to St Michael's parish in 2001 from Mareeba. Fran was an early childhood teacher and was involved in children's liturgy at the Mareeba parish for several years before moving to Brisbane.
Fran answered a call from Fr Pat Doran in 2003 to run the children's sacramental program. She continued to run alternate confirmation or first communion programs annually until she was diagnosed with Leukemia in May of 2021. Fran sometimes found it hard to commit to the very time consuming task of running the program but the enthusiasm displayed by the children and the sight of them receiving the sacraments for the first time always moved her. She and Chris also joined Pat and Maria Hanson, Monica and the late Peter Barrow and Jan Lidstone to form the parish liturgy committee for several years.
Fran had strong faith and firm values based on Christ's word, she lived it, fostered it in her family and enjoyed helping children see the value of faith.
Fran Lewis' funeral is Thursday at 11.00 am at St. Michael's Church.... everyone welcome to celebrate Fran’s life and wonderful contribution to our parish.

After a period of desert solitude, John the Baptist emerged as a prophet in the region of the lower Jordan River valley. He had a circle of disciples, and Jesus was among the recipients of his rite of baptism.

Feast of the Annunciation at St. Michael's
The feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saturday morning 25th March 2023 at 9:00 am mass at St Michael’s.
The day, which for centuries, Holy Church considered the first day of the legal year.
We bow down in awe before the event upon which our Christian faith is founded.
Today, we celebrate the very moment that our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, in all humility, was conceived in the womb of a humble virgin.
And in celebrating this Unfathomable Mystery, we celebrate the miraculous power of the Holy Trinity, God in His Three Persons.
We also celebrate, of course, the humility and unblemished beauty of the human person chosen to be the receptacle of this miracle – the Blessed Virgin Mary.
And through this choosing of her, we are brought to the foundation of our relationship with our God.
And in honour of this great event, initiating the mystery of our redemption, Holy Church, in her wisdom, prepares us most fittingly.
The day, which for centuries, Holy Church considered the first day of the legal year.

Feast of the Archangels - Michaelmas
St. Michael's will hold a mass Thursday 29th September at 9am to honour the feast of the archangels. Michaelmas; also known as the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the Feast of the Archangels, or the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels) is a Christian festival observed in some Western liturgical calendars on 29 September. Michaelmas has been one of the four quarter days of the financial, judicial, and academic year.
In Christian angelology, the Archangel Michael is the greatest of all the angels and is honored for defeating Lucifer in the war in heaven.
In the fifth century, a basilica near Rome was dedicated in honour of Saint Michael the Archangel on 30th September, beginning with celebrations on the eve of that day. The 29th September is now kept in honour of Saint Michael and all Angels throughout some western churches. The name Michaelmas comes from a shortening of "Michael's Mass", in the same style as Christmas (Christ's Mass).
During the Middle Ages, Michaelmas was celebrated as a Holy Day of Obligation, but this tradition was abolished in the 18th century. In medieval England, Michaelmas marked the ending and beginning of the husbandman's year, George C. Homans observes: "at that time harvest was over, and the bailiff or reeve of the manor would be making out the accounts for the year."
Because it falls near the equinox, this holy day is associated in the northern hemisphere with the beginning of autumn and the shortening of days. It was also one of the English, Welsh, and Irish quarter days, when accounts had to be settled. On manors, it was the day when a reeve was elected from the peasants. Michaelmas hiring fairs were held at the end of September or beginning of October. The day was also considered a "gale day" in Ireland when rent would be due, as well as a day for the issuing or settling of contracts or other legal transactions.

The Catholic Church celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the traditional date of September 8, nine months after the December 8 celebration of her Immaculate Conception as the child of Saints Joachim and Anne.
The Liturgy Committee have arranged to have a mass in the hall at 9:00am to celebrate the birth of Our Lady. Fr. John will be the Celebrant and the Shalom Music Ministry will provide a musical repertoire.
The circumstances of the Virgin Mary's infancy and early life are not directly recorded in the Bible, but other documents and traditions describing the circumstances of her birth are cited by some of the earliest Christian writers from the first centuries of the Church.
Saint Augustine described the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary as an event of cosmic and historic significance, and an appropriate prelude to the birth of Jesus Christ. “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley,” he said.

Feast of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Fr. John has kindly offered to celebrate the Feast of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St. Michael's on Monday 22nd at the 9am mass in the Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome.
In the Hebrew Bible, some Davidic kings had in their court a gebirah (“Great Lady") who was often their mother, and held great power as his advisor and an advocate to him. In 1 Kings 2:20, Solomon said to his mother Bathsheba, seated on a throne at his right, "Make your request, Mother, for I will not refuse you."
In the New Testament, the title has several biblical sources. At the Annunciation, the archangel Gabriel announces that [Jesus] "... will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David. He will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without end."(Luke 1:32) The biblical precedent in ancient Israel is that the mother of the king becomes the queen mother. In other words, Mary's queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship.
A statue of the coronated Mary is typically crowned with 12 stars reflecting the biblical image of the young woman pursued by the great red dragon in Revelation 12.

The Assumption of Our Lady
The 15th of August is a special feast day for the Assumption of Our Lady
Fr John will celebrate 9.00am mass at St. Michael's on that Monday morning to give the parishioners the opportunity to attend.
On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII declared the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which the Church celebrates every year on August 15. Simply put, the dogma of the Assumption states that at the end of her life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was taken, body and soul, into Heaven.

St. Michael's Church altar will get new carpet next month... the first time since 1975!
This new carpet will replace the carpet wrecked by summer storms after lightening opened up the Church roof. Picture (right) is an artist impression (Paul Mooney).
Colour ranges have changed somewhat in the last 47 years but the Parish Pastoral Council thought this would be the best fit.

Contractors at Work - Upcoming Closure
Beginning on the 1st July, St. Michaels will become a construction site as contractors begin repairs to the Church roof and interior following a lightening strike last year and the storms that followed it.
The work is fairly extensive and involves roofing, ceiling, electrical and flooring replacement and/or repairs involving scaffolding and power tools.
This means that for safety reasons, Masses and other services will be moved to the Parish Hall (which of course, is the old Church) for several weeks or in some cases, cancelled.
Please watch this space and your regular St. Michael's Bulletin for further details closer to the time.

St. Michael's to Celebrate an Australian Feast Day
There will be special mass at St. Michael's this coming Tuesday 24th May, 2022 at 9.00am celebrating the Feast of Our lady Help of Christians who is Patroness of Australia.
Mary Help of Christians was adopted as patron of the new Church of Australia at a significant time in our history. British settlement was just over fifty years old, the transportation of convicts was coming to an end, and the first elections in Australian history had been held in 1843. Issues of land, immigration and education had begun to surface and the Church was involved in these social problems. In 1843 Archbishop Polding inaugurated the first Catholic apostolic meeting with indigenous people in Moreton Bay.
In 2022, we confront many of the same social problems and the Church has the same need to witness to the values of the gospel. The task of evangelising the Australian culture is more urgent and daunting than ever. Today recourse to our national patron, Mary Help of Christians, is as relevant and necessary as it ever has been.
Fr. John will be the Celebrant and the Shalom Music Ministry will provide a musical repertoire. The mass will be followed by rosary and adoration for a short period of time.

Palm Sunday - Celebrating the Triumph of Our Lord
On Palm Sunday, Christian worshipers celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, an event that took place the week before the Lord's death and resurrection.
Palm Sunday always falls one week before Easter Sunday. This year, St. Michael's will be celebrating Palm Sunday on the 10th April at all Masses.
For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as Passion Sunday, marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.
The date of the first observance of Palm Sunday is uncertain. A detailed description of a palm processional celebration was recorded as early as the 4th century in Jerusalem. The ceremony was not introduced into the West until much later in the 9th century.
Jesus travelled to Jerusalem knowing that this journey would end in his sacrificial death on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Before he entered the city, he sent two disciples ahead to the village of Bethphage to look for an unbroken colt:
As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' say, 'The Lord needs it.'"
(Luke 19:29-31, NIV)
The men brought the colt to Jesus and placed their cloaks on its back. As Jesus sat on the young donkey he slowly made his humble entrance into Jerusalem.
The people greeted Jesus enthusiastically, waving palm branches and covering his path with palm branches:
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
(Matthew 21:9, NIV)
The shouts of "Hosanna!" meant "save us, now!" and the palm branches symbolized joy, goodness and victory.

St. Michael's Parishioners and Dorrington Residents United!
A petition circulated in the Parish and it's surrounding residents this month attracted one-hundred and six signatures in favour of keeping St. Michael's Memorial Church operating in the community.
The Petitioners also endorsed the need to find full-time Priest to serve the Pastoral and Administrative needs of the Parish as well as needy people in the community.
Archbishop of Brisbane, Mark Coleridge also affirmed the same purpose for St. Michael's in his letter to Parishioners this week.
We are united in purpose. Thanks be to God!
Parish Leaders have sent the Petition with letter to the Convenor of the Spiritans in Queensland, Fr. Msami Rogasian requesting appointment of a replacement Priest as soon as possible.

St. Joseph’s Day - A Great Celebration!
Some years we celebrate Easter in March but the holiday that the month is best known for is the feast of St. Patrick, held on the 17th day of the month.
But did you know there is another feast day of importance also celebrated in March?
St. Joseph's Day is a Roman Catholic feast day commemorating the life of the stepfather of Jesus and husband of Mary. This day is celebrated each year on March 19. Many people, especially those of Italian and Polish descent, observe the day as a holiday.
Popular customs among Christians of various liturgical traditions observing Saint Joseph's Day are attending Mass or the Divine Service, wearing red-coloured clothing, carrying dried fava beans that have been blessed, and assembling home altars dedicated to Saint Joseph.

The Colour of Lent...
Parishioners would have noticed that at our Ash Wednesday Masses the colour purple was used abundantly.
Our Lord, Jesus was dressed in a purple robe during his Passion by Roman Soldiers as a mockery of his being 'The King of the Jews' since long before his time, purple had been a symbol of royalty.
In Exodus, we can read how Moses ordered the tabernacle to be made of “ten sheets woven of fine linen twine and of violet, purple, and scarlet yarn” (Exodus 26:1) and in 2 Chronicles 3:14 we read that Solomon ordered the temple in Jerusalem to be decorated with fabric of the same colours.
The Church decided to keep the colour violet as a symbol, not just of penance and mourning (in anticipation of the crucifixion and with reference to Jesus) but also as a reminder of the need to confront our own sins, to prepare ourselves spiritually, and to help our neighbours to draw closer to God and his kingdom (conserving in this way the solemn character traditionally assigned to violet). It’s not just a colour that is used on special occasions, such as the popular processions honouring 'Jesus the Nazarene' during Holy Week throughout the Spanish-speaking world; it’s the colour of Lent as a whole.

The original school commenced in 1899 under the direction of Nellie Lawrence and was continued by Katie Cannan from 1913 to 1922.
At that time it came under the direction of Thelma Robertson who with Brenda McCullough taught until 1935, when Thelma Robertson continued the school alone for a further three years.
1938 saw Joy and Faye Bassett take the reins and in 1945 their sister, Nell, joined them. The Bassetts conducted studios in the inner city, Camp Hill, Mitchelton, Southport and Ashgrove.
In January 1973 they passed their Ashgrove School to Wendy and Judith Lowe who had gained their early training with the Bassetts, Frankie Thompson and Phyllis Danaher completing all their examinations in the RAD syllabus and becoming fully Registered Teachers of the RAD.
Over the years the school has had many guest teachers including Phyllis Danaher, one of the early RAD examiners, Evan Jones a former Lecturer in Ballet at QUT and Robyn Ross who held positions as Rehearsal Director for Ballet Ireland, Introdans – The Netherlands and le Grand Theatre de Genève (Switzerland).

Iconic St. Michael's Parishioner Passes
Bernice Mary O’Callaghan was born in 1934 and was a parishioner at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Dorrington for the last sixty years. Bernice passed away on Sunday the 23rd of January, 2022 surrounded by her family.
Bernice and her husband Des O’Callaghan (1931-1988) had their eleven children baptised at St.Michael's as well as many of their grandchildren.
Bernice was an active member of the St.Michael's and for many years has loved sitting in her regular seat up the back of the church near the windows with the lovely breeze and her many friends. Bernice’s deep faith in God, her love and kindness shone through with her everyday treatment of all those around her.
The family has extended an invitation to all parishioners to attend their dear Mum’s funeral so please feel free to come along to St. Michael's on Friday 28th January at 8.45 am.

Heartfelt Thanks to God on Australia Day!
On this Australia Day, we give God heartfelt thanks, for the many gifts we have been given, and we are reminded that we live in a commonwealth and that this Commonwealth is for the common good. The gifts we have are gifts to share for the benefit of each other. The gifts other individuals and communities within this nation, and the gifts and resources between all nations can be shared so that together we all have the gifts needed. The gifts that we have, we can share with others who have not, so that we all end up having the fullness of the gifts we need.
We pray that people everywhere will deepen their sense of belonging to the Commonwealth for common good and that there will be peace, respect, harmony and care for others in our society that we might always spare a thought for the person less fortunate, whether they be next door or in the next country.

After Two Years - A Break!
After two (fairly hectic) years since Fr Tom had a break from work, he finally has the opportunity to re-charge his batteries. Here is the full statement from Fr Tom's Supervisor, Fr Msami:
Greetings Parishioners
May I wish you all a Happy and Holy New-year.
As you are aware, Covid certainly continues to impact our lives on a daily basis and I pray that all in our community are staying safe.
I am making this announcement to advise you all that Father Tom Kessey will be taking five week's leave effective Saturday 15th January. As you may be aware Father Tom has not had the opportunity for a break for over two years. Since he is reluctant to travel overseas at this time, he has accepted my offer to reside as a house guest with me. This will ensure that he has a proper break from all of his commitments as parish priest - celebrating Mass, providing support as necessary and counselling to parishioners, taking home communion to the sick and elderly and so on.
You are probably wondering what arrangements will be in place to cover Fr Tom's absence. Accordingly during this time, Father John has kindly agreed to cover regular weekend Masses.
I will be visiting the Parish to celebrate Masses on Monday evenings and Wednesday and Friday mornings. This is something I am looking forward to very much.
Unfortunately, during this time, we will not have Masses at Dorrington on Thursday and Saturday mornings.
Additionally, during this time if parishioners require urgent assistance, I would ask you to please contact the Pine Rivers parish for support. A message will be left on the parish answering machine to this effect.
Any urgent emails should be redirected to my office.
I look forward to joining you at Mass and thank you for your understanding at this time.
God bless... I will see you all soon.

Nativity Mass - The Real Meaning of Christmas
St. Michael's celebrated the Nativity of Christ during Christmas Eve this year.
Children of the parish were the supporting cast to Baby Jesus in the story of His birth from the Annunciation through to the Worshipping of Him by the Shepherds and Kings in the stable in Bethlehem.
What a wonderful and heart-warming event to bring the community together at the end of 2021!
Many thanks to Steve and Sue Walker for their hard work organising the whole event :-)

How is Your Church Life Going?
St. Michael's parishioners are encouraged to participate in this year's National Church Life Survey. The survey will look at the following important issues in the Church today:
• Who is coming to Mass, their age groups and gender, education, migrant background and employment
• What parishioners currently value in the parish
• What they see as priorities for the future
• How parishioners relate to God through prayer, the Mass etc.
• Current involvement of parishioners
• Percentage of parishioners who are growing in their faith
• Who is outreaching to the community and how
• Relationships with other parishioners – how strong our community is

Leaky Roof Syndrome?
Ecclesiastes 10:18
Says...
Laziness lets the roof leak, and soon the rafters begin to rot
So the Parish Finance Council thought that we had better up and quickly make an insurance claim for St. Michael's Church's leaky rook and see if we could get some repairs done.
Turns out the roof had been hit by lightening so, our Catholic Church Insurance has paid for all the repairs (yippee!)
A bit of roof sealant and some deft soldering and an uplift on the old lead flashing and it was job done.
On a more sombre note... the Church roof is approaching 50 years old and will in the longer-term need a complete refurbishment or replacement. Watch this space for a Roofing Fund Appeal soon.

Our Cup(s) Floweth Over...

Anyone notice the new attendees at Mass last week?
They were certainly standing around and soaking up the atmosphere!
Seriously though, the recent rain deluge has exposed leaks in the Church roof that need to be attended to urgently.
The Parish Finance Council is desperately trying to get a quote from a Roofing Plumber to re-seal the roof for what could be quite an expensive job and thence to find the funds to finance it.

Its a Light Conversation
3 December 2021
Good things come down from Heaven and so it is with Church lighting.
Parishioners may have noticed that several of the pendant lights at the back of the church were broken. After more than forty years of reliable service, some of the light fittings had corroded contacts, perished wires and dead bulbs that would no longer work.
With replacement special 1970's light globes coming in at more than $200 each, it was important to find a solution.
Many thanks to Barry Whisson at SS Electrical for locating an exact copy replacement fittings and for repairs the perished wires as well as Kaye Tinniswood
who found the special Syvania Mercury Vapour globes needed.

Snakes Alive!
3 December, 2021
St. Michael's Parish Hall recreation area got some timely help from a pack of snakes this week as the rain deluge tried to take away the soil from Fr. Toms garden into the drains.
Not pythons of course... just friendly silt snakes from a local landscaping store in the right spot and job done!
Phew... thank Goodness for modern technology!
The all-important storm water drainage from the parish grounds will now be able to continue to operate effectively until the installation of new turf all the new People with Disabilities Ramp at the lower hall is complete.
Many thanks to Brian Brebner, Peter and Patsy Brown for your help.
It might be time to borrow a ride-on mower soon though, by the looks of the wild grass!

On Saturday, St. Michael's Parish held a special Remembrance Mass for loved one's lost. Each Parishioner placed a flower on the Remembrance table and an unconsecrated host be blessed into a plate and lit a commemorative candle in honour of the spirit of loved ones passed away. It was a moving ceremony and a beautiful honorific occasions for all of us. Many thanks to Madonna Rath for the beautiful flower arrangements. A brush-tail possum has decided to make St. Michael's her permanent home after finding a nice comfortable spot in one of Father Tom's beautiful banana trees. Cross Gets Much-Needed Repair
5th November 2021
After a fire earlier this year, the much loved Dorrington iconic Neon Cross atop St. Michael's Church is getting a rebuild. The cross spire is also worse for wear after 40-odd years of service. Insurance will pay for some of the repairs but donations towards the renewal of the spire are very much appreciated by Fr. Tom and the Parish Councils. Keep an eye out... the iconic blue cross is on it's way back! |
Vandal Damage to Be Fixed Soon
2nd November 2021
Vandals broke eight windows using a slingshot earlier this year after they were intercepted by Fr. Tom using the Parish grounds as a drug-taking site.
Fortunately, the Church builders were wise enough to install special security film which prevented the windows collapsing altogether.
It has been some time to get the insurance claim resolved and also to source the special glass required as supplies are difficult to get at the moment.
Nevertheless, our glazier who has been tracking down supplies for the past month or so says the repairs will be done by the end of next week.

Vandalism Spurs the Installation of Security Cameras!
5th November 2021 Visitors to St. Michael's Church may have noticed the warning signs "24-hour surveillance" and the little cameras on the four corners of the church. A EUFY Security Camera system was installed in August and is now working very well. Be aware - all people accessing the Church or church grounds are being monitored by the system and reported via text message to Fr. Tom and members of the Security Team. So far, the deterrent to vandals seems to be working! |
